Practical tour information

The Glacier lagoon is considered as one of the natural wonders of Iceland. This tour takes you along the beautiful south coast all the way to the glacier lagoon. On the way we stop by Skógafoss waterfall with 60 meters high downfall. When the sun shines you might spot a rainbow in the mist from the waterfall. After Skógafoss we head on to Reynisfjara for a lunch break and a short walk on the black beach.  We drive from Reynisfjara through a desert like land to a green oasis or the small village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur for a short stop. Kirkjubæjarklaustur is a service centre for the farms in the region as well as for tourists. This entire region is bursting with tales connected with events that occurred when Kirkjubæjarklaustur was the site of a convent. We drive onwards past Skaftafell, a national park located at the foot of Vatnajökull glacier and all the way to the Glacier lagoon. We stop briefly by the Glacier lagoon in the evening to view the magic in the twilight’s before checking in to our hotel nearby. It is a three-star accommodation with breakfast included. In the evening you will have an option to hunt for the northern lights either on site, if the weather conditions are in our favor, or on a guided tour away from the light pollution.

After a good night’s sleep and breakfast on Sunday we head on to the Glacier lagoon again.  Option to take a guided tour into an ice-cave or to take a hike along the lagoon itself and to the Diamond beach. The Diamond beach is a black sand beach with small icebergs that glitter on the sand like diamonds. We end our stay by the Glacier lagoon with a picnic and a taste of the ancient glacier. On the way back to Reykjavík we stop briefly in two the picturesque villages Kirkjubæjarklaustur and Vík. After a good day we drop you off by your hotel around 20:00.
