“Snæfellsnes” peninsula is one of few places in Iceland with golden and black sand beaches. On this tour, we drive alongside sparkling fjords, dramatic volcanic peaks, sheer sea cliffs and sweeping golden beaches which make the diverse and fascinating landscape of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. The beauty and magic of Snæfellsnes has inspired literature since the middle ages. The West of Iceland is one of the most important settings in the Icelandic Sagas and was immortalized in Jules Verne Journey to the Centre of the Earth. We will take you along the coastline and Snæfellsnes Glacier with beautiful mountain scenery. We stop briefly in Borgarnes where you can use restrooms and buy some snacks. Our first stop is “Búðir” with its golden beaches. From there we visit the charming fishing village of “Arnarstapi” where you can take optional 30-minute walk along the coastline to “Hellnar”. In Hellnar you can see the small coastal Hellnar Church which was built in 1945 on a picturesque site where a church was first raised in 1833. From there we drive to “Djúpalónssandur” where we will stop and stretch our legs on a black sand beach. To complete the circle in “Ólafsvík” where we will have a late lunch (not included).
