About these booking conditions
These Booking Conditions apply to all tours, excursions, and transfers booked with Sterna Travel, a brand of GTS ehf., a tour operator registered in Iceland (Fossnes C, 800 Selfoss). By making or confirming a booking you accept these conditions on behalf of everyone in your party. They are governed by Icelandic law and should be read together with our Privacy Policy and our Cancellations & Changes policy. You can reach us at info@sternatravel.com or +354 480-1200.
Booking and confirmation
Bookings are made through this website and processed by our reservation provider, Bokun. A contract is formed only when you receive a written booking confirmation (by email). You are responsible for providing accurate details — names, dates, passenger numbers, pick-up location, and any special requirements — and for checking your confirmation as soon as you receive it. Some tours carry minimum age, fitness, or minimum-participant requirements stated on the relevant tour page; please make sure your party meets them before booking.
Prices and payment
Prices are those shown on the tour page at the time of booking, in the currency displayed, and include taxes where stated. Payment is taken at the time of booking through Bokun and its payment processors; we never see or store your full card details. Where a price depends on group size, season, or options, the total shown at checkout is the price that applies. We make every effort to keep prices accurate, but reserve the right to correct obvious errors before a booking is confirmed.
Changes or cancellations by you
If you need to change or cancel a confirmed booking, the applicable deadlines, refunds, and any fees are set out in our Cancellations & Changes policy, which forms part of these conditions. Please contact us as early as possible by email or phone with your booking reference. Refunds, where due, are made to the original payment method.
Changes or cancellations by us
Occasionally we may need to change an itinerary, meeting point, vehicle, or departure time — or, rarely, cancel a tour — for reasons such as safety, weather, road conditions, insufficient participant numbers, or events beyond our control. If we cancel a tour, we will offer you a suitable alternative or a full refund of the amount paid for the cancelled service. We are not responsible for incidental costs (such as flights or accommodation) booked separately.
Weather, safety and force majeure
Tours operate in Iceland's variable natural conditions. For your safety we follow official guidance (including safetravel.is and the Icelandic Met Office, vedur.is) and our guides may alter routes, stops, or the order of an itinerary, shorten a tour, or turn back where conditions require. We are not liable for delays, changes, or cancellations caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control — including severe weather, natural events, road or area closures, strikes, or other force majeure.
Your responsibilities as a participant
You agree to arrive at the stated meeting point or pick-up on time, to follow your guide's reasonable instructions, and to come prepared for Icelandic weather with suitable clothing and footwear. Please tell us in advance about any medical condition, mobility need, or other circumstance that may affect your participation or safety. For everyone's safety, our guides may decline participation to anyone who is unfit to take part or who behaves in a way that endangers themselves or others, without a refund in such cases.
Right of withdrawal
Under EU/EEA consumer law, the statutory 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply to leisure and travel services supplied on a specific date or for a specific period (such as guided tours, excursions, and transfers). Cancellations and changes are instead governed by our Cancellations & Changes policy.
Our liability
We provide our services with reasonable care and skill. Our liability for any loss connected with a tour is limited to the price paid for that tour, except where Icelandic law does not allow such a limit — in particular, nothing in these conditions excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. We are not responsible for personal belongings, nor for services provided by third parties that you arrange separately.
Insurance
We strongly recommend that you hold travel insurance appropriate to your trip, covering cancellation, medical expenses and repatriation, personal belongings, and participation in the activities you have booked.
Complaints
If something is not right during your tour, please tell your guide at the time so we have the chance to put it right. If a concern remains unresolved, contact us at info@sternatravel.com within a reasonable period after your tour and we will respond as quickly as we can.
Governing law
These Booking Conditions, and any contract made under them, are governed by Icelandic law. Any dispute that cannot be resolved amicably is subject to the jurisdiction of the Icelandic courts.
