Golden Circle & Blue Lagoon Tour
Tick off Iceland's two headline experiences in one day — the Golden Circle's geysers and waterfalls in the morning, then a warm soak in the Blue Lagoon. Small groups, hotel pickup, from €184.
About this tour
Iceland’s two signature experiences sit barely an hour apart, and this golden circle and blue lagoon tour is the simplest way to fold both into one unhurried day from Reykjavík. You spend the morning chasing waterfalls, erupting geysers and a continental rift along the classic Golden Circle loop, then ease into the warm, silica-rich water of the Blue Lagoon as the afternoon light softens. It is the day most first-time visitors wish someone had planned for them — and it is built from two products Sterna runs every day.
How the day is put together
We keep this honest. Sterna operates the Golden Circle Classic day tour and a separate Blue Lagoon transfer; the Blue Lagoon itself is an entry ticket you add on. When you book, your reservation is for the Golden Circle Classic. At checkout you add Blue Lagoon Comfort entry and a Blue Lagoon transfer, and we line up the timings so the two halves flow together. You pay only for the parts you want, and nothing is locked into a rigid package. This blue lagoon golden circle tour therefore gives you the freedom to soak for two hours or three, and to head back to the city or straight to the airport.
Your morning on the Golden Circle
The Golden Circle Classic leaves Reykjavík mid-morning and traces a loop through three landmarks that, between them, tell the story of how Iceland was made and governed.
Þingvellir National Park
First comes Þingvellir, a rift valley where the North American and Eurasian plates are visibly drifting apart at the Almannagjá gorge. It is also where Iceland’s parliament was founded over a thousand years ago, which makes it a UNESCO World Heritage Site on both geological and human grounds.
Geysir and Gullfoss
Next is the Geysir geothermal field, where Strokkur erupts every few minutes in a reliable plume of boiling water — bring a camera and patience. The loop’s finale is Gullfoss, the two-tier ‘Golden Falls’, where the glacial Hvítá river thunders into a canyon and, on clear days, hangs the spray with rainbows.
An afternoon at the Blue Lagoon
After the Golden Circle, the Blue Lagoon transfer carries you to Iceland’s most famous geothermal spa, set in a field of black lava on the Reykjanes peninsula. The water holds a steady 38°C and is rich in silica and minerals; a slow float with a mud mask on is the perfect antidote to a morning on your feet. Late afternoon is the loveliest time to be in the water, with thinner crowds and lower light. Because the Lagoon sits beside the road to Keflavík, it is also an ideal last stop before a flight home.
Why pair the Golden Circle with the Blue Lagoon
These are the two experiences nearly every visitor to Iceland wants, and pairing them is efficient: one pickup, one guide for the sights, and a single well-judged afternoon at the spa rather than two separate excursions on two separate days. The contrast is the point — a brisk, geology-rich morning outdoors followed by warm, restful water as the day winds down. It works in every season, and in winter the heat of the Lagoon feels close to miraculous.
What to bring
Pack a swimsuit and a towel (or hire one at the Lagoon), warm and waterproof layers for the Golden Circle’s exposed viewpoints, and sturdy shoes for gravel paths that can be icy in winter. Glasses and contact lenses are fine in the water. If this is your departure day, travel light: you can store luggage at the Blue Lagoon and finish with a transfer to Keflavík Airport.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Blue Lagoon included in the price?
The from-€184 price covers the guided Golden Circle Classic day tour. Blue Lagoon Comfort entry and the Blue Lagoon transfer are added at checkout, so you only pay for the elements you choose. We help you align the timings so the day runs smoothly.
How does the timing work between the two?
You complete the Golden Circle loop in the morning and early afternoon, then transfer to the Blue Lagoon for a late-afternoon soak — the quietest, prettiest window. From the Lagoon you can transfer back to Reykjavík or continue to Keflavík Airport.
Can I do this on my departure day?
Yes. Because the Blue Lagoon lies on the road to Keflavík, many guests end the day with a soak and an airport transfer. Store your luggage at the Lagoon and keep your day bag light for the Golden Circle.
Do you offer hotel pickup?
Yes. Pickup is from your Reykjavík hotel or a nearby designated stop, starting around 08:00. Our central meeting point at Harpa Concert Hall is the easiest option if your accommodation is outside the pickup zone.
Does the tour run in winter?
Yes — it is year-round. Winter trades green moss for snow-dusted lava fields and shorter daylight, and stepping into the warm Blue Lagoon after a crisp morning outdoors is one of the season’s real pleasures.
What's planned
Reykjavík hotel pickup
08:00–08:30We collect you from your hotel or a nearby designated stop in central Reykjavík and head east out of the city as your guide sets the scene for the day ahead.
Þingvellir National Park
≈1 hourWalk the Almannagjá rift, where the Atlantic and North American tectonic plates visibly drift apart, and stand on the ground where Iceland's parliament, the Alþingi, was founded in 930 AD. A UNESCO World Heritage Site of rare geological and historical weight.
Geysir geothermal field
≈45 minutesSteam drifts across a hillside of bubbling pools and hissing vents. The original Great Geysir gave its name to every geyser on Earth; today its neighbour Strokkur does the heavy lifting, firing a column of water 15–20 metres skyward every few minutes.
Gullfoss waterfall
≈45 minutesThe Hvítá river plunges in two dramatic tiers into a rugged canyon, throwing up spray and, on bright days, rainbows. On a still winter morning the surrounding cliffs glaze with ice. This is the Golden Circle's grand finale.
Blue Lagoon soak
late afternoon, ≈2–3 hoursReached via the Blue Lagoon transfer add-on, the milky-blue, mineral-rich water sits at a steady 38°C against a backdrop of black lava. Float, slather on a silica mud mask and let the morning's miles melt away before transferring back to Reykjavík or onward to Keflavík Airport.
